Nine thousand years before the Great War between Heaven and Hell erupted, unexpected news shook the lines of the Royalty of Hell. Belphegor, the North Prince and sole heir to Lucifer’s throne was known for his firm yet complacent behavior toward his father over Hell’s kingdom. One day, he abruptly declared his separation, if not outright rebellion, and relinquished his birthright for reasons unknown to all but the prince himself.

No one could tell who started it or how it began, but flames of unrest were ignited and quietly spread amongst the royalty. Still, it was kept tightly from the Legions of Hell, and no one among the Royalty of Hell took advantage of the situation. Thus, the dreaded chaos never came to pass.

Everything remained silent until soldiers began disappearing in numbers that warranted Belphegor’s attention. Even though no bodies had been discovered, the indication of their demise was clear: each of these missing soldiers’ surveillance golem had melted not long after they went missing.

Belphegor kept trying to stop the killing, but he had been finding only the aftermath and no trace of anything that could shed light on the massacre. In his gut, the prince knew the bloodbath was only a precursor to something that would not bode well for anyone, especially the Legions—and yet, he had no choice but to bide his time; otherwise, he’d risk calling the Angel of Death to himself, and everyone around him, especially the one whose existence he’d die to protect.
